Victoria Azarenka, the world's No.1 woman tennis player, and three other leading players will play at the Heineken Star in Ho Chi Minh City on September 20.
Speaking at a press conference in the city on Wednesday, organizers said women's world No.13 Slovak Dominaka Cibulkova, as well as men's No. 17 Gilles Simon from France and Feliciano Lopez, from Spain, ranked 31st in the world's men rankings, would also play at the event.
The 23-year-old Belarusian Azarenka won the Australian Open this year. At the moment, she has advanced to the women's singles semifinals after dethroning champion Australian Samantha Stosur in the quarters.
This is the first time the organizers have invited the world's women leading players to participate in the Heineken Star. At the previous events in 2006, 2008, 2010, also held in Ho Chi Minh City, only men players were invited.
Organizers also said that about 300 tickets would be sold for the 1,500 seat stadium, ranging from VND2 million per ticket. The rest of the seats will be reserved for invited guests.
Vietnam Television (VTV) and Ho Chi Minh City Television (HTV) will air the matches live.
According to the schedule, the four tennis stars will arrive in Ho Chi Minh City on the 19th of September to talk with tennis fans and play with young Vietnamese players before the competition at the city's Lan Anh Sports Center the next day.
