Coach Le Thuy Hai tendered a letter of resignation to the management of V-League club Ninh Binh on Monday (April 12) for not meeting the club's requirements.
Hai said the goal of finishing among the top five would be out of reach of the club because it doesn't have any foreign players ranked "stars" in the league.
The contract said the northern club paid Hai VND100 million per month. The US$5,200-plus monthly salary is a record for a local coach.
In addition to the hefty sum, Hai would receive VND500 million if Ninh Binh wins the National Cup title.
When he came, Ninh Binh was in sixth place out of 14 in the table and he was required by his contract to help the club finish among the top five.
Hai, who helped Binh Duong earn two consecutive V-League championships in 2007-2008, would receive VND1 billion if the club finishes in the top two slots.
He had a good start by helping the club beat hosts Hoa Phat Hanoi 2-0 at Hanoi's Hang Day Stadium in the sixth round of the league, just two days after he took over the reins.
However, the club was then kicked out of the running for the National Cup title in the quarterfinals before suffering a 0-4 away defeat and a 0-1 home loss to Binh Duong and the league champs Da Nang in the seventh and eighth rounds.
Ninh Binh has been very impatient with coaches. Seven coaches have come and gone over the past three years. And Hai has been the second coach to leave the club after the first eight rounds of the 2010 season.
