Defeated 0-1 by Dong Nai in their first game on Friday, Nghe An beat An Giang 3-1 in their second match during the National U.21 football finals at Pleiku Stadium, on Sunday.
The win set Nghe An back on course in Group B at the 14th October 7-17 edition of the country's number one youth football competition, sponsored by Thanh Nien newspaper.
However, the win didn't come easy for Nghe An, who claimed the championship of the tournament every year, from 2000 to 2002.
Nghe An conceded the first goal after 14 minutes but then turned around and played much better for the rest of the game.
In contrast, An Giang, who defeated holders Da Nang 2-1 in their first game, didn't play with all the necessary concentration.
In other action, Da Nang tied 2-2 with Dong Nai"”although they played hard and took the lead twice.
Dong Nai players now top the group with four points, followed by Nghe An and An Giang each with three points. The reigning champs, Da Nang, hover at the bottom with only one point.
