Badminton ace Nguyen Tien Minh beat Japanese rival Kenichi Tago in straight sets in the first round of the Yonex Denmark Open Super Series 2011 in Odense on Wednesday.

The 7th-ranked Vietnamese player had a great start and cruised past the 19th-ranked Japanese to take the first set 21-10 without much difficulty.

Tago, ranked second in Japan, tried harder in the second set but failed to stop Minh from winning the set 21-15.

Minh will next clash with Japan's number one Sho Sasaki, ranked ninth in the Badminton World Federation rankings. Minh, ranked seventh, leads 5-2 in head-to-head encounters with the Japanese player.
