Vietnam's number one badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh crashed out of the 2011 Asian Badminton Championships in Chengdu on Friday with a straight sets loss in the quarterfinals to China's Pengyu Du.
Fourth seeded and seventh-ranked Minh, who had beaten his opponent in their previous two encounters, lost to the sixth-seeded, 11th-ranked Du in a match that lasted 51 minutes.
In the first set, Minh couldn't catch up with Du after the latter took an early lead and lost it 15-21. He put on a better display in the second but his opponent played better towards the end to take the second set 21-17.
The quarterfinal defeat marks Minh's continued loss of form after his failures in Malaysia, the Republic of Korea and Australia.
