Vietnam's badminton star Nguyen Tien Minh advanced to the quarterfinals of the Swiss Open Super Series 2010 in Basel after beating Briton Carl Baxter in straight sets on Thursday.
Baxter, ranked No.3 in Britain, led Minh by five points in the first set, but the latter improved his defense and caught up with Briton at 16 before taking the set 21-18.
Minh, the only Vietnamese to enter the world's top one hundred, took early control of the second set and won 21-13. Minh is ranked seventh in the world while Baxter occupies the 35th spot.
In the quarterfinals, Minh will clash with the winner of the match between world number four Chinese Jin Chen and Dane Joachim Persson, ranked 25th in the world.
Winning a quarterfinal berth will secure Minh's seventh position in the Badminton World Federation's rankings.
