Vietnam's top badminton player Nguyen Tien Minh lost 0-2 to South Korea's Park Sung Hwan in a fight for a quarter-final spot at the 2010 World Badminton Championships in Paris Thursday.

Park, who fell two places to 16th in world rankings Thursday, started with confidence and in high spirits, showing how well he understood the seventh seeded Vietnamese, who climbed one spot to seventh this week.

Park defended well and launched attacks with powerful and effective smashes, beating Minh 21-15 and 21-14 in 43 minutes.

Minh, the only Vietnamese to enter the world top 100, had set himself the goal of entering the quarterfinals in Paris like he did at the event in India last year, but it was Park's day on Thursday.
