Vietnam's chess ace Le Quang Liem took his second win at the 2012 edition of the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival, beating Spanish player Salvador G. on Wednesday local time.
Liem, ranked 29th in the world, is seeded fifth at the event.
In other second round matches played Wednesday, second-seeded Azerbaijani Shakhriyar Mamedyarov, Elo 2747, ranked 14th in the world; third-seeded Englishman Michael Adams, ranked 25th, Elo 2724; fourth-seeded Hungarian Zoltan Almasi, ranked 27th, Elo 2717; and sixth seeded, 32nd-ranked, Hungarian Judit Polgar, Elo 2710 won their games as well.
But 13th-ranked, top seed Russian Peter Svidler, Elo 2749, could only earn a draw with Russian-born German GM Jussupow Artur.
Jussupow Artur, who was playing with the white pieces, launched relentless fierce attacks, but Svidler managed to fight to a draw.
In the next round, the top seeds of the tournament, including Liem, will clash with players with Elo over 2600. The 20-year-old Vietnamese will play Romanian GM Emilian Parligras Mircea, Elo 2650, seeded 18th at the event.
The 10th edition of the annual Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival will close on February 2.
