Chess ace Le Quang Liem remained in second place behind Cuba's Leinier Dominguez Perez after round 8 at the SPICE Cup in Texas on Sunday.
The 25th-ranked Liem drew with 77th-ranked French Sebastien Feller while the 38th-ranked Perez drew with the US's Yury Shulman.
German GM Georg Meier took the only victory of the 8th round, beating the US's Ray Robson.
Perez now leads Group A with 14 points while Liem has 13, Meier has 11 points and Robson, Feller and Shulman have seven points each.
There are two more rounds to go. Liem will next clash with Robson in the ninth game. Liem had beaten Robson in the fourth round of the October 15-25 event, so has a good chance to win now.
However, the key game for the Vietnamese player will be the match against group leader Perez on the 25th of October local time ( 26th morning in Vietnam).
