Vietnamese chess ace Le Quang Liem remains in the leading pack in the Masters category at the Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival after a sixth round draw Sunday.
The fifth seed, who has an elo rating of 2714, was playing with black pieces and could do no more than fight for a draw against the 24th-seeded American Akobian Varuzhan.
The 20-year-old Liem, the No. 29, however dropped three places to ninth while the 28-year-old Varuzhan, climbed one place to 18th.
Both have 4.5 points and are in a group of 12 players behind the top eight who all have five.
Englishman Short Nigel, the 15th seed, leads, followed by third-seeded compatriot Michael Adams.
The second seed, Azerbaijani Mamedyarov Shakhriyar, is in third place and the 11th seeded Indian Krishnan Sasikiran is in fourth.
Top seeded Russian Peter Svidler, the world No. 13, who is not in the best of form, climbed four places to 22nd after a draw with Sweden's Emanuel Berg .
Liem will next clash with Israel's Tamir Nabaty who is in 19th place.
The 10th edition of the annual Tradewise Gibraltar Chess Festival from January 24 till February 2 has attracted 256 players from 60 countries around the world.
