The table tennis competition held in Ho Chi Minh City from July 13-17 will draw several players from the world top 100.
Vietnam's champions are particularly nervous about facing off against the South Korean contingent"”especially 25th-ranked Lee Jung Woo.
The competition, which is called "the Ho Chi Minh City Golden Paddle" looks interesting to Korean players as they have participated in the event in recent years.
Last year, for example, Lee Eun Hee (ranked 41st in the world) cleared the deck at the tournament.
But many believe the Petro Vietnam team has what it takes to take on the Korean big boys.
Last year, Vietnam's number one Doan Kien Quoc teamed up with Chinese players Yang Ce and Kou Lei, Petro Vietnam club defeated Korean players in the men's team final match.
This year's competition looks just as exciting, because Petro Vietnam still hires Yang Ce and his compatriot Zhang Kuo to join Kien Quoc and Ngoc Thuan in an attempt to retain the men's team title.
Players from Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Hong Kong, China will also compete, along with Vietnam's national team and the Ho Chi Minh City team.
Vietnam's national team is pinning its hopes on regulars Dinh Quang Linh, Tran Tuan Quynh, Nguyen Thanh Luan and Phan Huy Hoang.
