Japan defeats Vietnam to meet Thailand at AFF U19 Cup semifinal

Vietnam will face Myanmar at the semifinal of the ASEAN Football Federation’s Nutifood U19 Cup 2014 after losing 2-3 to Japan at the last qualifying match in Hanoi on Tuesday.
The host team made serial attacks right after the match began at 7 p.m. and Van Toan scored a goal from outside penalty area at 21st minute to cheer up thousands of fans at the My Dinh Stadium.
Japan attacked in a failed effort to level the score in the first half when they faced strong defense from Vietnam players who had sharp counterattacks.
In the second half, both teams maintained attacks and Ideguchi Yosuke leveled the score at 58th minute.
Vietnamese players showed signs of fatigue in the last minutes of the match, allowing Nakano Masaomi and Kaneko Shota scored two goals.
At 89th minute, Vietnam got a penalty kick and Cong Phuong shorten the distance to 2-3, which was also the final score.
Defeating Vietnam, Japan will meet Thailand at semifinal. Both semifinal matches will kick off at My Dinh Stadium on Thursday, September 11.
