Following a stunning 6-5 win over Japan, Vietnam men’s futsal team lost 1-13 to Iran at the Asian Football Confederation’s Futsal Championships in a semifinal match on Friday.
The team’s coach Bruno Jose Garcia Formoso said the odds were against Vietnam when it had to face a stronger Iran at the Uzbekistan National Stadium.
“Iran has many strong players with good skills. They always seize most of the opportunities.”
Formoso also said Vietnam players lost much strength after a tough match against Japan two days earlier.
Vietnam only scored one goal by Trong Luan in the 16th minute while Iran players scored an average of one goal every three minutes.
On February 21, Vietnam will compete with Thailand for the bronze medal. Vietnam lost 1-3 to Thailand in a group match on February 15.
By getting through to the semis, both Vietnam and Thailand are already eligible for the 2016 Futsal World Cup in Colombia in September.
