The Binh Duong Television Station-initiated international football tournament, Becamex IDC Cup 2011, will open Thursday at the Go Dau Stadium.
Two Group A matches will be played on the opening day. V-League club Hai Phong will play Slovak club MSK Zilina while hosts Becamex Binh Duong take on Ugandan club SC Villa.
The contest this year promises exciting fare with several good techams in the fray. Group B has 2009 V-League champs Da Nang, Saigon Xuan Thanh, who have been promoted to Vietnam's top-tier V-League, Kingfisher East Bengal from India and Matsubara from Brazil.
Football fans of young striker Ha Minh Tuan, a member of the team that won the Thanh Nien-sponsored U21 International Football Competition on Tuesday, will see him action again for the Da Nang team.
The Becamex IDC Cup has over the years been considered a good opportunity for Vietnamese clubs to test their players and has also been a place for V-League clubs to find foreign players. Matsubara, for instance, has introduced several good players to the V-League.
Football in Binh Duong has been going through a slump for several years since the club won two consecutive V-League championships in 2007-08. Fans are waiting for the club to do well at the national level again.
