Indonesia abruptly canceled a friendly football match in Hanoi with Vietnam though the hosts have almost completed preparations for the game.
Indonesia had planned to send their national team to Hanoi on Thursday September 20 for a friendly game two days later, but now they cannot send the team because of differences between the Football Association of Indonesia and the Indonesian Football Savior Committee, who organises a breakaway Indonesian Super League.
Those two agencies now hold two different groups of the national team, with one managed by a domestic coach and one coached by the Austrian tactician Alfred Riedl.
Speaking to Thanh Nien, Vietnam's football team coach Phan Thanh Hung said with regret, "Obviously, the final-minute cancellation by Indonesia influenced the preparation of the Vietnamese team. It is due to the disorder of Indonesian football.
"Vietnam missed a chance for training and testing the players. But it is just a friendly match, so it doesn't have a bad influence. The whole team will continue to train till the end of this gathering before the players return to their clubs."
Coach Hung said Indonesia can only arrange for another friendly match on October 16. If it happens at that time, the Vietnamese team can still play the friendly match with Indonesia.
Vietnam played a friendly match with Indonesia and drew scoreless in Indonesia on Saturday September 15 after beating host Malaysian in another friendly on Tuesday.
