Thanh Hoa remain on top of the V-League after a 2-1 home win over Binh Duong in a fourth-round match at home Sunday.

The strategies employed by the two experienced tacticians Mai Duc Chung and Le Thuy Hai of the two teams made the players’ performances pretty dramatic.

Coach Mai Duc Chung of Thanh Hoa and Le Thuy Hai as technical manager of Binh Duong are good friends in life, but the fight on the pitch was fierce.

Le Thuy Hai took charge of the position earlier in the week and made Binh Duong look much different from what it was like in the previous rounds. The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes when striker Anh Duc scored the opener.

However, their happiness lasted only eight minutes before the hosts had the leveler after Slovenian striker Nastja Ceh scored from a free kick from the right flank. Ceh himself scored Thanh Hoa’s second goal in the match from a penalty kick for Mai Tien Thanh’s handball soon after the break.

Coach Chung said, “The fight was hard till the final second and we took the win with a lot of difficulty because my friend [Le Thuy Hai] helped Binh Duong play with a lot of care and dangerous attacks from three strikers.

“Thanh Hoa won the game with some good luck and high spirits of the players. The top spot is a good prize for all of us.”

At Cam Pha Stadium, hosts Quang Ninh were superior in the final 18 minutes and scored three goals to beat Dong Tam Long An 3-0 while Hoang Anh Gia Lai defeated Song Lam Nghe An 3-1 at Pleiku Stadium.

At Ninh Binh Stadium, hosts Ninh Binh and SHB Da Nang fought to a 1-1 draw while hosts Hai Phong beat visitors An Giang 2-0 at Lach Tray Stadium.

An Giang is at the bottom with 1 point while Binh Duong is second from bottom, also with 1 point.

In other action, the league reigning champs Hanoi T&T have been swept aside from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC)’s top-tier Champions League after a 2-0 defeat to the Thai club Muangthong United in the second qualifying round on Saturday.

The Vietnamese representatives will now play in AFC’s second-tier AFC Cup.
