Vietnam's number one young tennis star Nguyen Hoang Thien has advanced to the boys' singles and doubles finals at the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Grade 4 contest in Hong Kong.
The 16-year-old Thien, ranked 145th in the world, beat the 292nd-ranked Chinese Li Yuangfeng 6-2, 3-6, 6-3 in the boys' semifinals on Friday.
Thien had a good start and cruised to take the first set 6-2 but Li Yuangfeng tried harder and won the second set 6-3.
In the decider, the Vietnamese player took control of the set and played better than the Chinese rival before winning the set 6-3.
The win over the Chinese player set Thien in the final match where he will clash with the 188th-ranked Thai player Krittin Koaykul.
In the doubles event, Thien paired with Kelvin Lam of Hong Kong and took a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Taiwanese duo Chen/ Lee.
The pair Hoang Thien-Kelvin Lam will fight hosts Wong/ Yeung of Hong Kong in the final match for the championship.
