Hoang Anh Gia Lai’s Coach Guillaume Graechen has been dismissed after 13 losing matches in the top-flight V.League push the Central Highland club closer to 1st Division relegation.
Graechen, director of the Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG Football Academy, will coach Hoang Anh Gia Lai young team, the club said in a statement after losing 0-1 to host Dong Thap on August 15.
Assistant coach Nguyen Quoc Tuan has replaced Graechen as the club struggles to maintain in V.League.
The club president Doan Nguyen Duc said he hopes his decision would also help young players like Cong Phuong, Tuan Anh and Xuan Truong to play for their best instead of “being wasted in losing matches.”
“I highly evaluate Coach Guillaume Graechen’s contributions to the academy and wanted to maintain him as the club coach for this season. But it is a heated stage and I want to make a change for a new climate that improve the team,” he said.
With 5 rounds to go, Duc is optimistic that his team would retain in V.League in the next season despite it is at the bottom place with 14 points, 3 points behind Dong Nai and Can Tho.
“Hoang Anh Gia Lai is in difficulties but I always believe that it will maintain in the league. If we beat Dong Nai, we will have greater chance to stay.”
A player, who wanted to remain unnamed, said he and others always want to play under Graechen because “he is just like our second father”.
“But at this time, I think a change is needed.”
At the top group, Becamex Binh Duong continued to maintain its leading position with 42 points, followed by Thanh Hoa with 20 points.
Becamex Binh Duong was held with a 2-2 draw by host Hanoi T&T while Thanh Hoa lost 2-5 to Dong Nai on Sunday.
After 21 rounds, Tambwe Patiyo of Quang Nam leads the top scorers board with 15 goals, followed by Hoang Dinh Tung of Thanh Hoa with 13 goals and Le Van Thang of Can Tho with 12 points.
