Hoang Anh Gia Lai hires Korean coach

V-League club Hoang Anh Gia Lai (HAGL) on Monday officially signed a one-year contract with South Korean Choi Yoon Gyum to replace current coach Huynh Van Anh.

Choi, 49, played for Korean club Jeju United and was a member of the nation's under-23 team in the early 1980s.

He was also a member of Korea's national team from 1986 till 1992.

From 1993 onwards, he was assistant coach at Jeju United in Korea's top-tier K-League.

From 1999 till 2001, he was the first assistant coach at Jeju United and in 2001 he became coach of the club.

Two years later, he took over as coach of DaeJeon Citizen and took the club to the sixth place in K-League; and was a trainer for the young team at Jeju before he moved to Vietnam.

Choi, a keen fan of Liga giant Barcelona, said he would develop V-League side HAGL on the lines of the Spanish club.
