The Ho Chi Minh City Football Federation (HFF) has made arrangements to host a friendly match between former Vietnamese and Thai football stars on February 1.

Vietnamese players including Le Huynh Duc, Liem Thanh, Chu Van Mui, Vo Hoang Buu, Do Khai and Minh Chien will play against a Thai team featuring Kiatisuk Senamuang, Tawan Sripan, Dusit Chalermsan, Niweat Siriwong and others.

The HFF sent an invitation to Thailand, which was accepted, with Senamuang promising to call other Thai players in preparation for the friendly game.

Senamuang was Southeast Asia's No.1 striker in the 1990s and early 2000s and Le Huynh Duc could only be the second best striker in the region at the time.

Now, Senamuang coaches Thailand's Under-23 team, while Duc is the coach of reigning V-League champs Da Nang. Duc also took the club to the V-League championships in 2009.

All the proceeds from the football friendly match will be used to support more than 20 former footballers in HCMC who are struggling financially.
