Saigon Gia Dinh Sports Company will cooperate with Portugal's top-tier league club Benfica to establish a football training center in Ho Chi Minh City.

The Vietnamese company and the Portuguese club signed an agreement on Tuesday in Lisbon.

The center will be called Saigon Gia Dinh-Benfica Football Academy, according to the agreement.

Vietnam's national football team coach Henrique Calisto (a Portuguese national) has helped the HCMC-based company to work with the Liga Sagres club.

Benfica, which is currently on top of the Liga Sagres and finished third last year, is a leading club in Europe with impressive achievements including 31 Liga Sagres titles, 24 Portuguese Cup titles and two European Champions League titles.

Vu Tien Thanh, general director of Saigon Gia Dinh Sports Company, said, "In addition to the cooperation with Benfica, the company will take care of brokerage business, event organization and building sports complexes."

Saigon Gia Dinh-Benfica Football Academy will be built in Ho Chi Minh City and take trainees from around the country, applying the training regime used at Benfica.
