Ho Chi Minh City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism on Tuesday announced the decision to appoint Vuong Ngoc Son as chief of the city's table tennis department.

The decision, which was signed on Saturday (Mar 19) and will take effect on April 01, says Son will replace Nguyen Thi Lanh who will be given another assignment to be announced later.

The decision was made because most of the city's table tennis players submitted petitions to the city's Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism about two months ago to ask that they stop playing for the city.

Their main complaint was against Lanh's behavior that they said had discouraged them.

Son was moved from the city's youth table tennis training center to the new position.

Son has trained players who have become big names nationwide, like Phuong Linh, My Linh, Ngoc Uyen and Mai Thy. But this is the first time Son has been given a manager's position.
