Hanoi T&T crushed Hai Phong 5-0 while Becamex Binh Duong had a tough 4-3 win over Dong Tam Long An in the semifinals of the 2015 National Cup on Wednesday.
Host Hanoi T&T fielded strong players except for the naturalized striker Hoang Vu Samson, who was in Nigeria for medical treatment. Coach Phan Thanh Hung did not reveal the exact medical condition.
Meanwhile, about 300 Hai Phong fans came to Hang Day Stadium as their team tried to defend its National Cup title.
Fireworks have been launched before and during the match and hundreds of police officers have been mobilized to maintain order.
Hanoi T&T took an early lead in the 3rd minute with a goal by 31-year-old Argentine striker Gonzalo Damian Marronkle who had a thundering shot from 20m away to defeat goalkeeper Xuan Viet.
A confused Hai Phong’s defense almost led to another goal by Van Quyet a few minutes later after he passed many defenders but missed with his shot.
Hai Phong began to play tougher and referee Hoang Pham Cong Khanh gave a total of four yellow cards to Van Phu, Van Nam, Anh Hung and Quoc Trung.
In the 41st minute, Marronkle finished his double after passing through several Hai Phong defenders.
Hai Phong failed to organize any sharp attack in the second half, when they suffered three more losing goals by Van Nam, Van Quyet and Ngoc Duy in 63rd, 76th and 78th minute, respectively.
In the other semifinal match, Becamex Binh Duong had a difficult win over host Dong Tam Long An with a header by Tan Tai in the extra time, after winning 3-0 in the first half but being leveled 3-3 in the second half.
Dong Tam Long An had to play with 10 men from the 88th minute, after Phan Thanh Giang got the second yellow card in the match in the rain at Long An Stadium.
Under the Cup's regulations, Hai Phong and Dong Tam Long An shared the third place.
The final match is scheduled on September 26.
