The Hanoi team looks like the strongest contenders for the men's titles at the 2010 National Table Tennis Championships to be held in the Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang next week.

The draw for the May 10-14 event took place Saturday.

In the men's and women's team categories, ten men's teams will compete in three groups as will the ten women's teams.

The format places Group A and Group B at a higher level than Group C. The first two groups will have three teams each while the latter will have four teams. While the top teams in Group A and Group B will go straight to the semifinals, the second placed team in these groups will play against the top two teams in Group C,

In the men's Group A, Hanoi is most likely to take the top place while hosts Tien Giang and Vinh Long will vie for the second spot.

In Group B, Can Tho looks set to have a difficult time against teams from the Army and the Ministry of Public Security.

Ho Chi Minh City, Hai Duong, Khanh Hoa and Lao Cai will fight for the two places in the second stage.

In the women's team category, the Military team is most likely to take the top spot in Group A with Hai Duong and Vinh Long fighting for the second place.

The top place in Group B, meanwhile, is predicted to go to the Ministry of Public Security team, so Hai Phong and Binh Dinh will struggle for the second spot.

Ho Chi Minh City women are predicted to take one berth in the second stage while Dong Nai, Hanoi and hosts Tien Giang will compete for the other available spot.
