Authorities in the city of Hai Phong City are getting ready for the 2013 Under-21 National Football Championship set to take place at Lach Tray Stadium from September 26 to October 6.
Speaking at a meeting on Monday, Dan Duc Hiep, Standing Vice Chairman of the Hai Phong People's Committee, said, "Hai Phong will do the best to make the 17th edition of the U21 National Football Championship a successful event not only for Hong River Delta tourism year, but also for the future of football in the city."
All the facilities including the stadium, lighting systems, locker rooms and fields will have been improved by the time the Thanh Nien-sponsored event takes place, the meeting heard.
It is planned that the Hai Phong Radio & Television Broadcasting Station of will air nine out of the completion's 15 matches; while VTV, VTC, HTV, K+ and Viettel will broadcast all the matches live.
The Hai Phong Football Fan Club has promised it will gather a large crowd to support the teams and promised that Hai Phong's notorious hooligans would be kept at bay. The Nam Trieu Company will provide security for the tournament.
The qualifying round will see 28 teams split in four groups compete from September 6-18. The top team from each group and the two second-place teams with the most points will advance to the final contest where they will battle host Hai Phong and reigning V-League champs Song Lam Nghe An.
The next major event will be the seventh edition of the U21 International Football Tournament, set to be held in Ninh Thuan Province from October 11 to 20, with two Vietnamese teams competing against four international teams.
Like the national event, the international contest will also be organized by the Vietnam Football Federation and sponsored by Thanh Nien newspaper and the Thanh Nien Media Corporation.
