A double by Cong Phuong secured the crown for U19 Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG at the Thanh Nien Newspaper’s U21 International Football Tournament in a 3-0 win over Thailand at Can Tho Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Thailand played cautiously on home field in the first minutes while Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG continuously caused pressure on goalkeeper Khunpiam.
HAGL Arsenal JMG took the lead in the 16th minute after Cong Phuong was brought down by Suphan Thongsong and Le Van Son converted the penalty. 
Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG continued to attack with the supports of more than 50,000 spectators at Can Tho Stadium. Many fans who couldn't buy tickets managed to watch the game by climbing trees around the stadium.
In the 76th minute, Cong Phuong scored the second goal for HAGL Arsenal JMG even though he was followed closely by at least two Thailand defenders most of the time.
In extra time, Van Toan broke Thailand’s offside trap before passing to Cong Phuong, who scored the third goal for HAGL Arsenal JMG.
Crushing Thailand 3-0, Hoang Anh Gia Lai Arsenal JMG claimed Thanh Nien Newspaper’s U21 International Football Tournament for the first time. This was also the first time the U19 club competed at the 8th annual event.
Earlier on the same day, Thanh Nien Newspaper Vietnam defeated Malaysia 2-1 in the third place playoff.
