Gymnast Ha Thanh wins Asian championship in China

Vietnam's best female gymnast Phan Thi Ha Thanh snatched the gold medal of the women's singles vault event at the Senior Asian Artistic Championships in Fujian, China on Tuesday November 13.

Ha Thanh, who won the bronze medal of the women's vault event at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Tokyo in October, 2011 and a berth at the London Olympics 2012, successfully scored 14,700 points to win the championship.

Twenty-one-year-old Ha Thanh had to compete with many world-class gymnasts from Japan, the Republic of Korea, the People's Democratic of Korea and hosts China.

Thanh's gold medal in Fujian is Vietnam's first ever gold medal in Asian gymnastics contests.

Vietnam's men team finished fifth at the competition, which started on November 7 and will close on Thursday, November 15.
