Goalkeeper Bui Tan Truong has signed another three-year contract with V-League club Dong Thap, it was announced Monday.
The contract worth VND5 billion ensures the 24-year-old goalkeeper a monthly salary of VND40 million.
Truong, who stands 1.88 meters tall, said he had been offered higher salary and more money for a transfer but he wanted to play for his hometown and be near his family.
Pham Duy Tien, deputy director of Dong Thap Province Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, said, "Our financial potential is limited, and the club has lost many talents over the past years.
"This time, we are trying to keep our good players. Tan Truong is a good player on and off the field, and he wants to play for the province. Therefore, we, the officials, must try to find sponsors to keep him."
Truong has set a new record for a goalkeeper because Vietnam's second-ranked goalkeeper Quang Huy was transferred from Nam Dinh to Hai Phong Cement for VND3 billion last year and the country's top goalie Duong Hong Son was transferred from Nghe An to Hanoi T&T for VND2 billion in late 2007.
Truong played exceptionally well for Vietnam's Under-23 team at the 25th South East Asian Games in Laos in December 2009.
He suffered a shoulder injury during the final match against Malaysia in Vientiane where Vietnam lost 0-1. However, he is now recovering very well and will play for the club again soon.
