Vietnam's No.1 chess player Le Quang Liem is back on track for a title race after two wins at the HD Bank Open in Ho Chi Minh City Sunday.
In the fourth round that morning, Liem beat compatriot Vo Thanh Ninh before beating Chinese rival Xiu Deshun in the fifth round in the afternoon.
After two wins in the opener on Friday, the 20-year-old Grandmaster Liem drew with Russian rival Diu Viacheslav on Saturday and fell to the ninth position after the third round.
With four wins and a draw, the globally 29th-ranked GM Liem, elo 2714, is now in second place with 4.5 points.
Chinese GM Ni Hua is leading the March 1-8 HD Bank International Open Chess Tournament 2012 with 5 points due to wins in all of the first five rounds.
The tournament, which has attracted 90 players (20 of them female) from 15 countries and territories, has four more rounds to go.
