Vietnam Television (VTV) has announced that it will broadcast the English Premier League on its public channel VTV6 from September 12.
VTV’s Advertisement and Service Center (TVad) has acquired the broadcast rights to the 2015-2016 season for nearly US$300,000, a source told Thanh Nien, adding that it is a "good deal."
More than 10 years ago, EPL was broadcast live for free in Vietnam before pay TV channels bought the exclusive rights to air the matches on their channels, leading to a harsh competition.
Since 2010, K+ channel of VSTV – a joint venture between VTV and Canal Plus – has been the only channel with the broadcast rights.
VTV said it is also discussing with relevant agencies to buy TV rights for the Champions League.
