V-League club Dong Tam Long An (DTLA) has been chosen to play a friendly with Germany's top-tier Bundesliga I club Eintracht Frankfurt in Ho Chi Minh City on May 14.
The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) said at a press conference in Hanoi on Thursday (March 25) that the match would take place at Thong Nhat Stadium after the German side plays Vietnam's national team at Hanoi's My Dinh Stadium two days beforehand.
The Vietnamese football governing body said it chose DTLA because the Mekong Delta club was the national league's champions in 2005 and 2006.
It did not chose SHB Da Nang nor Becamex Binh Duong because the V-League reigning champs and runners-up were busy competing at the Asian Football Confederation Cup.
Da Nang is now on top of Group H with three wins out of three matches while Binh Duong is in second behind Indonesia's Sriwijaya in Group F, with a win, a tie and a loss at Asia's second-tier contest.
DTLA is now in the eighth spot out of 14 with eight points after six rounds while the German side is in eighth out of 18 with 38 points.
On Saturday, Frankfurt came back from a goal behind to beat top-placed Bayern Munich 2-1 in Bundesliga I's 27th round while DTLA lost 0-1 to Thanh Hoa in the V-League's sixth round.
