The Vietnam Footfall Federation (VFF) chose Lu Dinh Tuan as coach of the national men's Under-22 football team on Friday, replacing coach Mai Duc Chung.
Speaking to Thanh Nien, VFF general secretary Ngo Le Bang said,"This is very likely to be a final decision because there is now no other candidate, and it will be announced early next week if nothing changes."
Le Bang said coach Mai Duc Chung is very busy with personal issues and is also taking an advanced specialized course in football coaching in the Czech Republic.
Tuan was coach of Saigon FC, who were playing well in the V-League until he was fired early last month when the club suffered three consecutive losses and fell from second to fifth place.
In other football news, Phan Thanh Hung, coach of the V-League 2010 champions Hanoi T&T, who are currently leading the league, has been selected by VFF to coach the national men's football team when they play friendly matches with China and Hong Kong next month.
VFF said Hung will then be invited to sign a four-month contract to coach the men's national team after the 2012 V-League season ends.
Accordinly, Hung will coach the team at the 2012 ASEAN Football Federation Cup, to be co-hosted by Thailand and Malaysia from November 24 till December 22.
