Colin Montgomerie, world golf hero and designer of The Montgomerie Links Vietnam, will be the guest of honor at the course's grand opening ceremonies on April 19 in Da Nang.

Montgomerie, the 2010 European Ryder Cup Team Captain and eight-time winner of the European PGA Tour Order of Merit, last visited during the latter stages of the construction phase.

Known affectionately by his fans as "Monty," the golfing great's Vietnam design has since garnered widespread acclaim, including the "best new course in the country" accolade from Vietnam Golf Magazine, which also named the 12th hole at Montgomerie Links the country's best par 5.

"There could be no sweeter icing on the cake than a visit from Monty," said Jon Tomlinson, general manager at Montgomerie  Links. "Needless to say, our members are eagerly anticipating his observations on the design not to mention a chance to play a hole or two with a legend and I know he's looking forward to seeing his fully realized creation."

The first 18-hole course to open in Vietnam outside the orbits of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, the course was informally opened last August. It capitalizes on the site's natural, dune-strewn topography for a visually stunning, memorable golfing challenge. A par 72 that measures as much as 7,090 yards from the back tees, it also has three less-daunting sets of tees, the forward-most being 5,119 yards.

Other notable aspects of the project include the recently completed 3,000-square-meter clubhouse, full-service golf academy and practice facility, and 54 estate villas.
