Vietnamese star Le Quang Liem has booked a berth at the 2013 Chess World Cup in Norway after finishing fourth at the Asian Continental Chess Championships in the Philippines .
In the last round Sunday Grandmaster Liem, ranked 29th in the world with an elo rating of 2,714, had a bit of a disadvantage since he had black pieces against the host nation's Oliver Barbosa (2,566), who was playing for a draw.
The two agreed to a draw after just 17 moves.
Top-seeded Liem, 22, Barbosa, 26, and another Filipino, Mark Paragua, all finished second with 6.5 points, but the the other two had higher tie break points than Liem.
Chinese GM Li Chao won the championship with 7 points.
Adhiban Baskaran of India came in fifth.
The top five qualified for the World Cup in August.
In the women's event, Pham Le Thao Nguyen of Vietnam finished 14th with five points.
Liem also took part in the blitz chess event, winning it with eight wins and a draw in nine games.
Vietnamese GMs Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son and Nguyen Thi Thanh An qualified for the World Cup in January from another event in the Philippines.
