Becamex Binh Duong continued its recent streak by coming back to take a 5-2 home win over national cup holders Vissai Ninh Binh on Monday.
The league’s 2007-08 champs Binh Duong did not have a good start and conceded a goal after 11 minutes when the visitors’ midfielder Hoang Danh Ngoc scored the opener with a header.
However, the hosts showed a different face in the second half and their concerted efforts resulted in a leveller after Brazilian Vietnamese striker Huynh Kesley went through the visitors’ defenders and beat goalkeeper Van Hung six minutes after the break.
Binh Duong got excited after the leveller and launched more attacks, but Ninh Binh defender Le Quang Hung beat Nigerian Vietnamese goalkeeper Nguyen Quoc Thien Esele to take the lead during a counter-attack.
However, the hosts launched even more dangerous attacks after that, making it impossible for the visitors to stand firm. Four straight goals were then scored by Nigerian striker Abass Cheikh Dieng, Ugandan striker Suleiman O. Abdullahi and Huynh Kesley to earned the hosts a victory.
Binh Duong jumped two places to second with 14 points from eight matches, behind league leaders Thanh Hoa, who took a 2-0 home win over Quang Nam on Saturday to secure their top spot with 22 points in 8 matches.
Reigning champs Hanoi T&T earned a 2-1 away win over Quang Ninh on Sunday to remain in the lead of their group with 12 points.
