Coach Duong Ngoc Hung of the V-League club, Binh Duong, has resigned after 18 days in the hot seat. He is the third coach to have abandoned the position this season.
Hung tendered his letter of resignation to the club's board of directors, following a 1-5 away loss to Khanh Hoa at Nha Trang Stadium in the top-tier league's 23rd round on Wednesday.
According to the club's chairman Nguyen Minh Son, Hung resigned because he said he "couldn't stand the pressure, couldn't earn enough wins and lost the chance to win the championship of V-League this season."
Hung took over the reigns on July 17 when Binh Duong was a third-place team with 32 points - just two points shy of first-place Hanoi T&T. Fans and team owners had hoped Hung would bring the team a league title.
During his 18 days in the position, however, Hung oversaw one win, one draw and three losses. Binh Duong remains in third place with 36 points though they now trail Hanoi T&T by 8 points with only three more games left to go. Second place, Hai Phong, has just 39 points and is not expected to catch up to the capital team.
According to Binh Duong's chairman Son, the club's leaders have accepted Hung's letter of resignation and have decided to appoint assistant coach Luis Morgado Rodrigues as his replacement.
The Portuguese coach used coach TDC Binh Duong, the club's second squad.
