Vietnam has its very first medalist in swimming at the Asian Games on Tuesday (Sep. 23).
Nguyen Thi Anh Vien finished third in the 400m individual medley, touching the wall in 4:39.65.
World record holder Ye Shiwen of China dominated the field in the final to become repeat champion at just 18 years old. Her time of 4:32.97 not only helped her win gold, but break her own Asian Games record from 2010.
Second place finisher Sakiko Shimizu of Japan touched in at 4:38.63.
Vietnam has also taken bronze through wushu artist Nguyen Thanh Tung in performances of taiji sword and taijiquan, and the men’s épeé team in fencing.
