Nguyen Thi Anh Vien won a silver medal at the Arena Pro Swim Series in the US on Thursday after defeating several strong local swimmers.
The 19-year-old swimmer from Vietnam’s Mekong Delta finished with 4m39s64 in women’s 400m individual medley at the event held from March 3-5 in Orlando, Florida.
Maya DiRado, the world’s runner-up in the category, finished first with 4m36s68.
Becca Mann finished third with 4m40s44, followed by Katie Ledecky – who has won five gold medals last year at international events – with 4m40s95.
The Orlando event was the third in the 2015-2016 Arena Pro Swim Series that also select eligible swimmers for the 2016 Summer Olympics in Brazil.
