Vietnam strikers missed several chances as they were held with 0-0 draw by Malaysia at the AFF U19 Football Championship at the Laos National Stadium in Vientiane on Thursday.
Strick curfew by Coach Hoang Anh Tuan likely led to good performances by Vietnam young footballers after they defeated Timor-Leste 2-0 earlier on Tuesday.
Before his players face Malaysia, Tuan said he expected his team to gain at least one point: “Malaysia as strong strikers. They gained 6 points after two matches.”
Vietnam’s striker Duc Chinh had several chances, including a missing header in the 65th minute and three other chances in the second half when he faced Malaysian goalkeeper.
With a draw against Malaysia, Vietnam ranked 3rd in Group B with 4 points but with a fewer match. Malaysia is leading with 7 points, followed by Myanmar with 4 points after 3 matches each.
Vietnam will play against Singapore on August 29 and Myanmar on August 31.
Two leading teams in two groups will advance to the semifinals, scheduled on September 2.
