Hy said he had met Calisto and asked him to sign a new contract but the coach had declined to talk about it until after the VFF Cup ended on November 11.
Calisto’s contract, which he signed in early 2008, expires on March 31 next year.
With Vietnam’s victory in the 2008 Southeast Asian championship to his credit, it’s no wonder that Vietnamese football’s governing body wants the wily Portuguese tactician to stay on.
When reporters approached Calisto after a training session for the under-23 squad in Hanoi on Monday, he refused to comment about his contract.
“This is not the right time to talk about this important matter,” he said
The VFF Cup for U23 teams from November 5-9 will pit the country’s best youngsters against China, Thailand and Singapore.
