Tay Ninh back on top in First Division league
Tay Ninh played exceptionally well at home Saturday to defeat tough rivals Hoa Phat Hanoi and get back to the top of Vietnam’s second-flight First Division after losing the top place to Binh Dinh last week.

Tay Ninh in the southwestern region has proved to be very strong at home this season, playing with full enthusiasm and confidence. The visitors from the capital city took the lead in the first half; but the home players were not fazed.

The home team’s coach Vu Truong Giang made the right changes, and his players responded, scoring three goals and reclaiming their top spot.

In the central region, Binh Dinh, who had taken the top place last week, failed to take home advantage and was held 0-0 by Can Tho from the Mekong Delta.

Can Tho’s central fullback Tran Minh Sen and goalie Khong Thanh Tu, who had moved from Binh Dinh, played superbly, denying any chance of scoring to the home team.

It was the second home draw for Binh Dinh who dropped to third place on the table. It indicates that Binh Dinh will have a lot of difficulty getting promoted to the top-flight V-League again.

Northern team Ninh Binh moved up one place to take the second spot with a 2-0 win over Tien Giang.

National cup holders Hanoi ACB moved from 11th to 9th place after defeating Saigon United at the Hang Day Stadium in Hanoi with a brace by the “Best Young Player 2008” title winner, midfielder Pham Thanh Luong.

Southern team Dong Nai had moved up two places to fourth with a 2-0 home win over Quang Nam.

Elsewhere, Quang Ngai and An Giang fought to a 1-1 draw in the central province of Quang Ngai, while Quang Ninh drew the central club Hue by the same margin.
