Three workers were killed and two others injured at a southern Vietnam construction site Monday after a cable carrying them up a building snapped.
One of the workers, Nguyen Hoang Nhung, was thrown five meters away from the landing point and was killed on the spot as the cable broke outside the fifth storey of the hotel building in Can Tho, the Vietnam News Agency reported.
Nguyen Hoang Thai and Nguyen Van Mit died at the Can Tho General Hospital and two others are still receiving treatment.
All the worker were hired by a local contractor.
The cable was designed to carry bricks to higher floors and the workers would take the stairs. But on the ill fated day, they decided to take a short cut, other workers said.
