More than 300 workers of a South Korean company in Ho Chi Minh City were hospitalized after they fainted from hunger.

The workers of Shilla Bags International in Cu Chi District left the lunch table in panic on Saturday after some of them found leeches crawling from the trays, the Tuoi Tre newspaper reported. The company employs nearly a thousand workers.

During the afternoon shift, the fasting workers began fainting, suffering numbness and stomachache.

The incident is being investigated.

Leeches made headlines in late November after some Chinese dealers who ordered leeches from farmers across Vietnam did not show up. Thousands of the hardy worms were left behind, including those in Ho Chi Minh City.
