Work starts on $1-bln seaport complex in southern Vietnam

A complex of international and local seaports, with a total investment of nearly US$1 billion, broke ground in the southern province of Long An Sunday.


The seaport complex covers a length of 2.6 kilometers in Can Giuoc District's Tan Lap Commune.


It will have seven international ports able to admit ships of 30,000-50,000 DWT and six local ports capable of handling 1,000 DWT ships.


It is expected to be fully operational in 2020.


An industrial zone, an area of port industry services and an urban area will also be built adjacent to the complex, Vo Quoc Thang, board chairman of Dong Tam Group said at the groundbreaking ceremony.


Dong Tam Group cooperated with VinaCapital Group in investing in the project which will cover 1,935 hectares in total.
