Police in Khanh Hoa Province located along Vietnam's central coast are investigating the recent deaths of one American woman and another from Canada at a province hospital.

Doctors at Khanh Hoa General Hospital said Karin Joy Bowerman, 27, was admitted on the night of July 30 and died several hours later, while the 26-year-old Canadian, Cathy Huynh, died early on Thursday, after being hospitalized around noon the day before.

Bowerman was suffering from a severe decline of her respiratory and heart functions; her veins could not be found and her blood pressure was too low to be recorded. Doctors used a respirator, but their attempts to save her failed.

Huynh was conscious when she was admitted, complaining of dizziness. Doctors said her heart stopped several times.

The women showed no signs of external injuries.

Preliminary investigations found the two tourists had stayed at the same hotel on Nguyen Thien Thuat Street in Nha Trang.

Doctor Pham Dinh Chi, from the hospital's emergency department, said the women's conditions developed fast and it's hard to know what caused them.

Forensic tests are being conducted.
