Woman probed for smuggling 2kg gold jewelries into Vietnam

A woman caught bringing 2.15 kg of gold jeweries from Hong Kong to Vietnam without declaration last December is placed under house arrest while she is investigated for illegal cross-border transport of goods.
Tran Thi My Hanh, 35, was found to keep the jewelries, which were worth VND1.1 billion (US$50 million), in her luggage after her flight landed in Hanoi's Noi Bai Airport on Dec. 2, 2013, according to the police.
Hanh could not present to the authorities documentation of the jewelries.
The charge carries the penalty of between twelve years and twenty years of imprisonment, according to Vietnam's penal code.
