Police in the central province of Ha Tinh on Thursday launched a criminal investigation into the death of a two-month-old baby who was allegedly thrown into a well by her mother.
According to the police, Tran Thi Quynh Nga, 40, told neighbors that her daughter had been kidnaped at around 5 p.m. on Friday last week.
Dozens of locals went searching for the baby. They discovered her body in a well near her house two hours later.
Police then looked into the case and suspected that Nga had thrown her daughter into the well.
Nga reportedly told investigators that she was under stress due to conflicts with her husband and admitted to the crime.
A neighbor told Thanh Nien that Nga had shown signs of severe depression. A local Party official said she attempted suicide once but was brought to hospital in time.
The baby girl was her third with her husband, who works as a mason.
