Prosecutors in Ho Chi Minh City are pressing charges against a 29-year-old woman for terrorizing a local hospital last year.

According to the indictment issued by the HCMC People's Procuracy, Nguyen Thi Thu Thao sent a message to the hot line of the Gia Dinh People's Hospital on May 21, speaking ill of the Party and making threats of violence.

She kept sending messages over the next three days, asking for VND100 million (US$4,807), threatening that she set the hospital on fire and poison many people if she was not paid.

Thao told police that she sent the messages because she was upset about personal matters, not because she aimed to rebel against the government or carry out any act of terrorism .

However, the HCMC People's Procuracy said criminal charges were being pressed against Thao as her actions had terrified hospital staff and adversely impacted social security.
