Ho Chi Minh City police are hunting for two robbers who attempted to snatch a bag from a woman, causing her to fall off her motorbike and died.
The incident happened at around 1 a.m. on November 30 when Giang Quoc Van was driving his wife, Xy A Lan, and his sister Lu Nu on one motorbike in District 11.
When they were on Lac Long Quan Street, two men riding a motorbike approached them and tried to snatch Nu's shoulder bag.
Nu, 58, managed to hold on to the bag but Van the driver lost control and crashed.
The two robbers sped away.
Van and Lan suffered minor injuries while Nu was unconscious.
She was immediately admitted to the Cho Ray Hospital where she succumbed to brain injuries on the same day.
A police officer of District 11 said the area is a "black spot" for robberies because it was on the border with Tan Phu District with many alleys that robbers can use as escape routes.
A local vendor, who asked to be unnamed, said there have been many robberies in the area, sometimes with four cases a day.
“Some men from nearby game shops also went to the street to rob people before returning to the shop to play again,” she said.
