Investigators have concluded that the wife of a 50-year-old lieutenant colonel poisoned him to death with a pesticide, a police source told Thanh Nien.
Investigations revealed that Tran Xuan Chuyen of the Ho Chi Minh City Police Department's Road and Railway Traffic Division and his wife Du Kim Lien, 41, had quarreled over money.
Lien asked him to sell their three-story house on Hau Giang Street in District 6 to cover her gambling debts but he refused, offering to divorce her instead.
On March 11, Lien bought ten sleeping pills and dissolved them into water. At around 4 a.m. on March 12, when Chuyen arrived home inebriated, Lien injected the dissolved sleeping pills into his buttocks as he slept.
Lien then injected a portion of a bottle of pesticide into his buttocks, pouring the remainder of its contents into his mouth.
She turned herself in on March 14, confessing to the murder.
Previously the woman had claimed that her husband had a stroke, but an autopsy concluded that he had been poisoned.
